Cookies & browser storage
Small preferences, explained in plain language.
At a glance
We currently have no analytics, advertising pixels or newsletter tools. The site remembers your motion choice and whether the homepage introduction has played.
Cookies and similar technology
Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to store and return with later requests. Local storage and session storage also hold information in your browser, but are different from cookies. This policy covers the browser storage used by the BearStack website.
The two BearStack preferences below stay in your browser. They are not added to your enquiry message or used to build an advertising profile.
What this site stores
Motion preference (bs-reduce-motion). First-party local storage remembers your choice when you use “Reduce motion” in the footer. It has no built-in expiry and stays until you clear the site’s storage or change the choice. It holds a preference value, not your name or email. Your operating system’s reduced-motion setting also applies.
Homepage introduction (bs-intro-seen). First-party session storage records whether the introduction has been shown in the current tab’s session. It prevents the introduction repeating as you move around the site. Browsers normally clear session storage when the tab session ends; a browser’s session-restoration feature may preserve it.
Contact form protection. A security token helps validate the form. The server keeps a hashed rate-limit identifier for ten minutes after the latest accepted attempt. This is a server record, not a browser cookie. When enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile checks browser and connection signals and provides a short-lived, single-use verification token. We validate that token before sending the enquiry. Spaceship may also set a first-party technical cookie named hc_js_gate for its browser check, lasting up to one hour. Sending an enquiry does not subscribe you to marketing.
WordPress administration. Authorised staff who sign in may receive WordPress authentication and administration cookies. Those support login and administration; they are not required to read the public website. Their duration depends on login settings, including whether “Remember me” is selected.
Fonts and external requests
The site uses a locally hosted Chillax font and requests Inter and IBM Plex Mono from Google Fonts. A font request gives Google technical connection information, including your IP address and browser headers. That request is separate from the BearStack storage preferences. Google explains its font service in its Google Fonts privacy information.
Service-platform logos are locally hosted illustrations, not embedded analytics or advertising scripts. Following an external link takes you to another operator’s website, where its storage and privacy practices apply.
Analytics, advertising and future changes
We currently use no analytics tool, advertising pixel or newsletter tool on this website. We will update this policy before introducing a new tool that changes these practices and obtain consent before placing or accessing optional storage where required. Closing a notice or continuing to browse will not be treated as consent to optional tracking.
Your browser choices
Use “Reduce motion” in the footer to change the saved motion preference. If your operating system requests reduced motion, the site follows that setting. You can remove the preference entirely by clearing this website’s local storage through your browser’s site-data settings.
You can clear cookies and site data or restrict storage in your browser. Clearing storage may make the homepage introduction appear again and reset your saved motion choice. Blocking storage still lets you read the public content; preferences may no longer persist. Cookie settings alone may not remove local or session storage, so use the browser’s site-data controls.
